In recognition of World Toilet Day 2024, Dr. Urine contributed to the IWA's blog post titled "Toilets: A Place for Peace – Shaping an Essential Need with Ancient Wisdom and Modern Aesthetics."
This blog post discusses the history of toilet design, where ancient practices meet contemporary needs. It emphasizes that toilets are not only instruments of use, but also related to societal, cultural, and environmental settings.
In particular, the article focuses on the need to incorporate the elements of dignity, privacy, and a sense of well-being in sanitation facility designs. It also considers sustainable issues, green materials as well as cultural issues in the design.
Following the theme of World Toilet Day 2024, "Toilets: A Place for Peace," on the way toward achieving the 6th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG6), efforts should be focused on designing toilets that are considerate to individuals and society as a whole in that they are comfortable, functional and pleasing to the eye, promoting one’s health as well as the health of the entire community.
